Labor Day Weekend: NYC Unicycle Fest, Free Bike Rentals, a Native American Pow Wow, and Lego Safari
***To receive kid-friendly events and activities that are close to home, update your zip code.***
Kick off the long Labor Day weekend with kid-favorite musical band Rolie Polie Guacamole, and check out a special Central Park-inspired dance at the Harlem Meer Performance Festival Grand Finale. Then, head to the banks of the Saugatuck River for BBQ, live music, Melissa & Doug's Kids Corral, or wind down on the boardwalk with live music and DJs at the Music at the Concessions. Enjoy popular music of the Civil War-era and learn traditional 1800s contra dancing at Old Time Music Weekend. Plus discover some of the world's more unusual jobs at Ripley's Believe It Or Not's Labor Day celebrations.
Explore different cultures as you learn about the area's Native American residents through folk tales, songs, dance, cooking demos, and games at the Green Corn Festival, or check out award-winning performers and a fire-lighting ceremony at the annual Pow Wow fest. Then, make Bangladeshi crafts at another festival.
Still more fun is to be had at even more festivals, including New City Street Fair of games, rides, and inflatables, Seaford Fall Festival of arts and crafts, and the largest parade in Connecticut in observance of Labor Day.
Get active outdoors with free bike rentals Monday on Governors Island or head there on Saturday to witness a day of unicycle races, games, and shows. Learn about all the modes of transportation in NYC during 'Rush Hour' at the DiMenna Children's History Museum. Also enjoy one of America's favorite past times and watch a minor league ball game, or witness the world's best horses and riders at the Hampton Classic Horse Show.
Get up close and personal with an animal as old as the dinosaur, the horseshoe crab. Then head to the Bronx Zoo to catch the last of the Lego safari, and say farewell to the furry tarantulas at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center.
