His dynamic Baroque paintings, which blended his northern European sense of realism with the monumentality of Italian art, were celebrated throughout Europe. In addition to his renowned career as a painter, he was also a diplomat, a successful businessman and an intellectual who was fluent in six languages. As acknowledgment of Ruben�s greatness both Philip IV, King of Spain, and Charles I, King of England knighted him. |
