    Kid's Workshop - Home Depot Palisades Center

    Kids can learn new skills while making a something to take home at this free, monthly workshop. Rotating projects include birdhouses, toolboxes, fire trucks, mail organizers, bughouses and picture frames. Supplies are provided. In addition to taking home their creation, each child receives a kid-sized orange apron, similar to The Home Depot associates' aprons, and an achievement pin.

    4-H Dog Obedience and Tricks Classes - Level 2 - Murchison Hall behind the New Hempstead Presbyterian Church

    Dog owners ages 8-18 are invited to participate in this five-part workshop. Classes are taught by Canine Coaching, certified dog trainers, and presented by the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Rockland County. Class size is limited. Advance registration is required.     Hudson River-Maritime History - Hudson Highlands Nature Museum, Wildlife Education Center

    John Miller, Master Educator from the Hudson River Maritime Museum, will describe the different boats people have used to travel the Hudson River over the past 400 years. From canoes to sloops, steamships and barges, the Hudson River has long been a regional highway for transportation. Participants will learn: what life was like aboard a sailing ship, navigational terms and skills with hands-on activities.

    The Village of Nyack offers free parking every Thursday evening through the holidays. Stop by to check out the town's unique shops and restaurants without worrying about your Muni Meter.

    Moving Bricks on the Hudson - Haverstraw Brick Museum
    Through January 31, 2010 - Haverstraw

    This exhibit highlights the sloops, schooners, towboats, tugs, and barges that transported bricks on the Hudson River in the 19th and early 20th centuries. At its peak, the brick industry was the dominant industry on the River and boats carried one billion bricks annually. Visitors will learn about the brick boats and their boatmen and women, the dangers of river transport and the shipyards that built and repaired the "brickers."

    Ice Skating Season - Bear Mountain State Park
    Through March 07, 2010 - Bear Mountain

    The outdoor ice rink at Bear Mounain State Park is open for the season. Sessions are held daily Friday-Tuesday. Lockers and refreshments are available. Visit online for regular hours as well as special, holiday hours and information on birthday parties and private rink rentals.
