CG: TUG & BARGE IN THE PARK Brings Free and Low Cost Events to Brooklyn Bridge Park, 7/15-7/24
A woman tug captain has teamed with a juggling showboat captain to bring two historic vessels to Brooklyn Bridge Park. From Friday July 15 through Sunday, July 24, "Tug & Barge in the Park" will feature free dockside tugboat & covered barge tours, workshops and low-cost showboat performances. From knot tying demonstrations to the legendary circus-variety series aboard the barge, maritime programs and the return of showboat style performances of days gone by celebrate our "water highway" and its use for both commerce and popular entertainment. CG: Manhattan Repertory Theatre Hosts BLACK GIRL LOST, 7/7-9
Ebony magazine published an article in its May issue indicating that, according to FBI statistics, 273,985 people of color were reported missing in the United States in 2010. The Castillo Theatre (Dan Friedman, artistic director, Diane Stiles, managing director) is presenting three winning scripts from the 2011 Mario Fratti-Fred Newman Political Playwriting Contest, selected from over 150 entries including from U.S., Italy , New Zealand, Africa and the UK.
