Description: The Central Park Conservancy welcomes New York Metropolitan area jazz buffs, swing dancers and nature lovers to "Great Jazz on the Great Hill," a free concert and celebration of jazz in one of New York City's most iconic locations.
The free show returns for its sixth year in Central Park with live musical performances by renowned trombonist Wycliffe Gordon (with a special tribute to Louis Armstrong), Latin jazz musician Steve Kroon, Jazz and Blues vocalist, Alyson Williams and Jazzmobile's Jazz Vocal Competition Winners Brianna Thomas (2010).
The show, which takes place from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, is a co-presentation of Jazzmobile and the Central Park Conservancy. "Great Jazz on the Great Hill" is made possible by major support from corporate sponsor, JPMorgan Chase, the New York State Council on the Arts, New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, Harlem Week, the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce, and the Harlem Arts Alliance.
Family activities include the creation of a unique eco-postcard inspired by musical jazz instruments in a hands-on workshop for families (children ages 4+) led by community artist Iandry Randriamandroso. Visit the family area on the Great Hill and design some unique concert memorabilia to remember 2012's Great Jazz on the Great Hill by.
The concert is part of Jazzmobile's Summerfest, New York's oldest continuous summer jazz festival reaching approximately 50,000 people annually. Its mobile concerts bring the next generation of jazz innovators and legends to the five boroughs.
