Artfully housed in a former airplane hangar, the award-winning Long Island Children’s Museum is a creative, innovative and inspiring destination for children and their grownups. 40,000-square -feet of indoor and outdoor exhibit space, state-of-the-art theater and learning studios await you. Geared for infants to age 12 and their grown-ups. Daily Early Childhood Programs stART (Story + Art) Tuesday through Friday from 12:30-1 p.m. † Story fun followed by literature-inspired activities and crafts. Ages 3 to 5. Fee: $3 with museum admission ($2 LICM members). Language Immersion at LICM Tuesday and Thursday from 11:30 a.m. – noon LICM offers 5week programs to introduce children to another language in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Class project and songs reinforce learning. Take home activities distributed at the end of each class. (check website for series details) Ages 3 to 5. Fee: $3 with museum admission ($2 LICM members). Music and Movement Wednesday and Friday from 11:30 a.m. – noon Musical instruments and sing-along songs that get your body moving. Ages 3 to 5. Fee: $3 with museum admission ($2 LICM members). Messy Afternoons Saturday and Sunday from 3:30-5 p.m. At LICM we’ll be up to our elbows in goop, guts, shaving cream and play-doh today … and we hope you’ll join us for the type of artistic activities that everyone loves, but not one likes to clean-up after. Except us! The afternoon will offer a variety of sensory activities for children ages 18 months to age 4. Free with museum admission. Through May 5, 2013 Explore the science of what’s eating you in this skin-crawling exhibition! Examine the what, why, when and how of mosquitoes, fleas, ticks, leeches and other parasites known as sanguinivores (creatures that eat blood). Learn why bloodsuckers are important to the ecosystem -- and how to keep them out of your system!
Attack of the Bloodsuckers! offer visitors the chance to: - Look a real leech in the mouth;
- Pull off your socks and test your bug-appealing foot odor;
- Receive a big hug from a giant, inflating tick;
- Get itchy and knotty with the life-size game of "Twitcher" — a buggy variation on Twister™!
