World Class Learning Academy, New York is a private international school for children ages 3-11, located in New York City's East Village. Part of a successful network of schools in the US and abroad, WCLA has a rigorous, learning-focused curriculum that is used in over 1100 schools in 65 countries. Passionate, highly-trained teachers personalize learning opportunities to each student, helping children learn the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their local and global communities. Though World Class Learning Academy is a relatively new private school in Manhattan, the track record of its sister schools speaks to the quality of the learning that takes place in this nursery and primary school. Students from these World Class Learning Schools have been admitted to outstanding colleges and universities, including Harvard, Oxford, Princeton, MIT, McGill (Canada), St. Andrews, and Johns Hopkins. The school's teachers, recruited from top schools in the UK and other World Class Learning Schools, create innovative, exceptional learning experiences both inside and outside of the classroom. The school uses a unique combination of the International Primary Curriculum and the National Curriculum for England and Wales. Teachers take an interdisciplinary approach, creating connections between subjects. Themes relevant to children are used to bring subjects together, which consequently makes learning fun. For example, during the 3-week "Chocolate" theme, children explore the history of chocolate, science behind making a chocolate bar, do math with chocolate pieces, and learn geography through understanding where chocolate is grown in the world. Foreign languages are taught from the age of three. Applications are now being accepted for the 2012-2013 school year for preschool and elementary grades. There are spaces available for the 2011-2012 school year in select grades. To apply, visit the World Class Learning Academy website or call 212-600-2010.
