It was heartening to see the various places that remained open (many offering free admission and impromptu kids' programming) in the aftermath of the storm to give kids a place to play, a space where things could be as "normal" as possible. This weekend, they continue to serve the kids in the community with fun and exciting activities, while a handful of others will honor Veterans Day to teach the next generation about the heroic acts of generations past, including at the Brooklyn Children's Museum's Veterans Day Medals. Plus join more than 20,000 people at the 93rd Annual NYC Veterans Day Parade for floats, military vehicles and veterans and military service members of all eras. Cool Shows: There's no doubt that NYC is brimming with talent. Be wowed at Kellogg's Tour of Gymnastic Champions, or see amazing tricks with Amazing Max and the Box of Interesting Things. Then catch Black Violin, a dynamic duo that astounds audiences with a funky fusion of classical, jazz, hip-hop, and R&B. Elsewhere, meet Bubbles the Clown in an interactive show for the entire family, or see Dr. Seuss' genius come to life in a production of "Go Dog Go!" Tis the Season: Watch the Rockettes at the season's debut of Radio City Christmas Spectacular, and meet all of your favorite Disney characters at Disney on Ice: Rockin' Ever After. Nearby, listen to the Westchester Chamber Symphony's 16th season opening concert, or catch a classical Benefit Concert in Manhattan. Then go on a Turkey Scavenger Hunt and make nature crafts with Greenburgh Nature Center. Outdoors: For more outdoor fun, visit Wildlife Weekend in Queens to get up close and personal with owls, frogs, and bugs. Learn more about owls at the Fall Owl Prowl, and discover other flying creatures at the World of Bees exhibit. Be a friend to the Great Outdoors by helping to clean up Prospect Park's 250+ acres of forest. Next, head to the Fall Foliage Fest to learn why leaves change colors in the fall. On View: Don't miss a sensory-friendly screening of Disney's latest "Wreck-It Ralph" when lights are turned up and sound's turned down: Manhattan, Nassau, and Fairfield, CT. Next, head to an exhibit of "Ice Age to the Digital Age" to learn about 3-D animation art and for story time. Peer through a 22-inch telescope to view the night sky and discover what scientists have found so far about life on mars. Lisa Chung Associate Editor
