As the cool autumn air settles in, families embrace the changing season with the classic pastime of apple picking. Local farms offer an assortment of attractions, from easy-picking dwarf apple trees and other seasonal fruits, to charming farm stands packed with home-baked goods, to hay rides out to the fields. Apple picking makes for a quintessential weekend getaway that brings fruitful rewards far after you've left the orchard-the fun continues at home when you try recipes like apple pie, cider donuts, or even fresh-pressed cider.

Make sure to call farms ahead of time when planning your apple picking outing. Hours and availability are subject to change due to weather and other farm conditions. Most importantly, have fun, and pick as many varieties of apples as your basket can handle
