The award-winning Starabella trilogy, about a little girl with learning differences who expresses herself through music, was inspired by author Sharon Fialco's own daughter, who has autism.

Starabella: Mystery Girl of Music

Meet Starabella: a courageous and talented girl with learning differences who expresses herself through music -- and when she's happy, Starabella's eyes shine like stars.

Starabella: Welcome to a Bright New WorldThe series of three Starabella books, by Sharon Fialco, was inspired by the author's own experiences with her daughter, who has autism and is a self-taught pianist and composer (and who also earned a certificate in Early Childhood Development -- how's that for inspiration?).

Each Starabella book is accompanied by a CD of music and narration meant to be experienced in unison, enhancing comprehension for different styles of learning.

Ten percent of book sales go to Autism Speaks. (Ages 2-8; $17.99-19.99 each; www.starabella.com)
