Introducing...

As a child growing up in the Midwest—that fly-over section of the country where Chicago is located—I spent the summers at my parents' small cabin on a lake. There, in a town with a population of slightly more than 350 people, I learned how to swim, ride a bike, and, eventually, drive a car.
I met another girl about my age, and we were inseparable—spending summers biking to the library, baking goodies that we weren't allowed in our "real" lives, paddling boats around the lake, and spending nights roasting marshmallows by the campfire. I've lived in New York for several years, but our cabin is still the only place that feels like "home." Both of my parents remind me of that during our weekly phone calls.
Having worked at Parenting and BabyTalk magazines as well as NYMetroParents, I am more prepared for (and frightened of) parenthood than most of my friends. I'm also a former health and fitness editor who can't turn your child into the next Michael Jordan, but can give you tips to help your non-athletic tyke stay active, keep her properly fueled for competition, and remind him that it's just a game.
