Celebrate Halloween with kids in Rockland County, New York, at these festive events, including Nyack's Annual Halloween Parade, a Halloween celebration at Barnes & Noble, and a pick your own pumpkins festival at The Orchards of Concklin.
It's that time of year again, when giant, inflatable pumpkins start popping up on lawns all over the suburbs. The more enthusiastic among us bring out lights, lawn ornaments, and animated "spooks" that either amuse or annoy our neighbors. Check out these family-friendly ways to enjoy Halloween in our area:
Rockland County's ultimate Halloween celebration, Nyack's Annual Halloween Parade, takes place this year on October 22 (rain date: October 23). The event is said to be the largest such parade in the tri-state area outside of Greenwich Village. Festivities begin at 3pm in the municipal parking lot; marchers and floats meet at 4pm at Memorial Park; parade starts at 5pm and heads to Main Street. All ages. FREE. Nyack Memorial Park, 53 Piermont Avenue at Depew, Nyack.
Children are invited to come in costume for special Halloween Celebrations at both of our area Barnes & Noble Booksellers. Little ghosts, goblins, and ghouls can get some yummy treats, take part in a costume parade, and hear a special Halloween story time featuring Goodnight Goon by Michael Rex, as well as other holiday favorites. October 29, 11am. FREE. Barnes & Noble: Palisades Center, 4416 Palisades Center Drive, West Nyack, 845-348-4701; and Barnes & Noble: Nanuet, 140 Rockland Plaza, Nanuet, 845-624-2920.
Bring your little pirates, princesses, and other Halloween revelers to the Orchards of Concklin to pick their own pumpkins then have fun at Pirates and Pumpkins Weekend. October 29-30. 10am. All ages. Pumpkins priced per pound; fee for special events. The Orchards of Concklin, 1010 Route 45, Pomona. 845-354-0369.
We highly recommend the events above, but for even more Halloween feasts, festivals, and fright fests, check out our full Halloween Calendar.
