June 8-10 A 24-Foot Zip Line, Touch a Truck Fair, Free Carousel Rides, & a No-Rules Art Festival |

|
Friday, June 8 is World Oceans Day, recognized by the United Nations as a day to celebrate the bodies of water that generate most of the oxygen we breathe! Head to the special opening weekend of New York Aquarium's new interactive exhibit "A-Maze-Ing Water," featuring a 1,500-square-foot maze with a 24-foot zip line and water cycle puzzle. Continue learning about the ocean with a meet-and-greet of sea creatures at the Beardsley Zoo, or catch the cool Samba talents of the sea lion duo at Prospect Park Zoo. Or use sand and seashells to create a World Oceans Day craft. Elsewhere, get up close with exotic snakes. The Animals that Make Reading Fun: For its final month, the Bronx Zoo hosts author readings, meet-and-greets with characters like Curious George, Maisy Mouse, and more, at Animal Tales Extravaganza. Meet Corduroy Bear for a special story time, or practice reading aloud to a friendly dog at the library. Finally, try your hand at old-fashioned carnival games with BooZoo, the Stepping Stones Museum's mascot for childhood literacy. Cool, Cool, & More Cool: For free, ride the historic Prospect Park Carousel and help celebrate its 100th birthday! Then, head to the NYC Police Museum's annual car show to catch a glimpse of vintage patrol cars, or climb aboard a fire truck, operate a construction vehicle at Touch a Truck. Head to Governors Island for FIGMENT, a free festival that transforms the land into a large-scale collaborative artwork. Nearby, use chalk to create skylines on the sidewalk. Watch former Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus clown perform tricks with 15 dogs, including tightrope walking. Or help Blue's Clues find the most spectacular place of all, or watch Disney's High School Musical come to life on the stage. Then, try your hand at colonial games, crafts and dances during Colonial Day, or discover the traditions of Korea's games, activities like Taekwondo, and music at the children's festival. Plus, pack a blanket and beach chairs for a Family Music Festival featuring music of the '50s and '60s.
