The area's junior hockey teams compete in a tournament to help raise money for The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, a nonprofit that offers a warm and supportive environment for families who are caring for seriously ill children throughout Long Island hospitals.

The Suffolk Juniors claimed a 4-1 win November 15 in the second round of The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island (RMH-LI) Cup against New York Apple Core. The team is now slated to go head-to-head with the winner of the first game in the tournament (Long Island Royals) January 10 on New York Islander ice.

The RMH-LI Cup is the most prestigious junior hockey tournament in the Long Island/New York City area, featuring the four most storied junior hockey programs: New York Apple Core, Suffolk Juniors, Long Island Royals, and Metro Moose. The teams have been competing to have their names engraved on the treasured RMH-LI Cup.

"It's been an exciting couple of games," says Matt Campo, RMH-LI's executive director. "Each team has raised significant funds to support our mission. I commend them for their community involvement through fundraising and participating in our Dinner Program, where the players and coaches cooked for our resident families. We look forward to seeing all participants and their families as the Suffolk Juniors and the Long Island Royals compete for the 2011 RMH-LI Cup."

Tickets to the Championship Game at Nassau Coliseum are $25 each and include admission to the NY Islanders vs. Detroit Red Wings game. All proceeds benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island.

To learn how your team can participate, purchase tickets to the Championship Game, or become a Championship Game sponsor, contact Jeanne Ellis at jellis@rmhlongisland.org or 516-775-5683 ext. 140.

The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island is a 'home-away-from-home' for families who are caring for seriously ill children undergoing medical treatment in area hospitals. Located in New Hyde Park on the campus of the Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children's Medical Center of New York (formerly Schneider Children's Hospital), the House accommodates families in a warm and supportive environment. Since opening in 1986, approximately 14,000 families from the United States and more than 80 countries around the world have been served.  Many of the families are from Queens, Suffolk, and Nassau Counties, as well as the surrounding metropolitan area.
