In light of American Cancer Society's 36th Annual Great American Smokeout, the nonprofit and ENT and Allergy Associates are holding a contest to encourage teens throughout New York and New Jersey to create anti-smoking T-shirt designs for a chance to win $2,000.

American Cancer Society teams up with ENT Allergy & Associates this month to encourage smokers to kick their habit and will also travel to local high schools throughout New York and New Jersey, educating teens about the dangers of smoking as part of the 36th Annual Great American Smokeout.great american smokeout

"The American Cancer Society is pleased to once again partner with ENTA on this year's Great American Smokeout," said Susan Petre, the regional vice president of the American Cancer Society. "Many adults smokers begin in their teen years, so by reaching youth early we hope to prevent teens from developing an addiction that can lead to serious illness, suffering, and even death."

As part of the effort, ENT Allergy & Associates hosts a contest that could land a local teen and his or her school $2,000 for creating a winning anti-smoking T-shirt design. The contest is open to all public high school students throughout New York and New Jersey.

Get your school to participate in the contest and have a school administrator review all designs. The winning T-shirt design should be submitted with the entry form no later than February 1, 2012.

If you've tried kicking the habit unsuccessfully before, maybe realizing how much you're hurting your kids by not quitting will be just the encouragement you need. Read more on the effects smoking has on kids here.
