Description: Learn what it means to be a good advocate for children with special needs as Sheryl Knapp, Founder and President of Literacy Advocates, discusses the essential components of reading assessments. Topics will include the definition of reading disability and different theories of instruction; matching methodology with a child’s reading style; the components of an assessment for identification, instruction planning, and progress monitoring; and the meaning of SRBI (Scientifically Research Based Instruction) versus RTI (Response to Intervention). Knapp will discuss how to interpret data about a child’s progress and performance and will review new computer instructional programs including LEXIA, Read Naturally, and System 44. Parents, caregivers, and professionals are welcome. Time: 10:15 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Price: $30 for members and $40 for non-members. Scholarships are available.
