NINA ANANIASHVILI is hailed universally as one of the world’s greatest Prima Ballerinas. She began her career with the Bolshoi Theatre in 1981 and became one of its most acclaimed soloists. Her international career was launched with a spectacular London performance of “Raymonda” that was greeted ecstatically by both the public and the critics, and became a turning point in her career. Along with Andris Liepa, she was the first Soviet dancer to appear as a guest performer with the New York City Ballet, dancing in “Raymonda Variations”, “Apollo” and “Symphony in C." Nina was the first Russian ballerina to be invited to perform with the Royal Danish Ballet, where she danced in August Bournonville’s “La Sylphide,” “Napoli,” and “Flower Festival at Genzano.” She also appeared with the Kirov Ballet, dancing in “Don Quixote,” ”Swan Lake,” ”Sleeping Beauty” and the premiere of Lavrovsy’s “Romeo and Juliet.” She made her debut with the American Ballet Theatre in 1993 receiving accolades of praise from press and public, and was also Soloist with the Houston Ballet since 1999. Appointed as Artistic Director of the State Ballet of Georgia, in recent years she has led its international tours including a prior visit to the Brooklyn Academy of Music in spring of 2008. Ms. Ananiashvili continues to perform with State Ballet of Georgia and make guest appearances with other companies. ALEXEI RATMANSKY was named Artistic Director of the Bolshoi Ballet in January 2004. For the Bolshoi Ballet, he choreographed full-length productions of "The Bright Stream" (2003) and "The Bolt" (2005), and re-staged "Le Corsaire" (2007) and the Soviet-era "Flames of Paris" (2008). Under his direction, the Bolshoi Ballet was named “Best Foreign Company” in 2005 and 2007 by The Critics’ Circle in London, and he received a Critics’ Circle National Dance Award for "The Bright Stream" in 2006. In 2007, he won a Golden Mask Award for Best Choreographer for his production of "Jeu de Cartes" for the Bolshoi Ballet. As Artist in Residence with American Ballet Theatre, Ratmansky has choreographed "On The Dnieper" (2009), "Seven Sonatas" (2009), "Waltz Masquerade" (2009), a ballet honoring Nina Ananiashvili’s final season, and "The Nutcracker" (2010). Ratmansky has just renewed his contract as Resident Choreographer with American Ballet Theatre to the year 2023.
