Description: Relish the beauty of the Zoo at the best time of the year—the winter holidays! On the first three Fridays and Saturdays in December, we're open until 6:30 p.m. so you can stop by in the afternoon or after work for a stroll under thousands of twinkling lights. Visit cold-weather creatures, enjoy family activities and Wildlife Theater in the Zoo Gallery, see two wintry 4-D features, and watch the animals enjoy seasonal treats during holiday enrichment sessions.
Also enjoy holiday shopping at the Zootique, take a family photo, and treat yourself to holiday cookies, cocoa, soups, and other seasonal snacks in the Dancing Crane Cafe. Activities take place 2:00–6:30 p.m.
Venue Description: The Central Park Zoo, opened in 1988, is designed to educate, involve, and connect people to our natural world. The zoo invites visitors to take a trip through tropic, temperate, and polar regions while encountering various types of animals -- from tiny leafcutter ants to tremendous polar bears. The Tisch Children's Zoo allows young children to enjoy animals on an up-close and personal basis. Penguin feedings take place daily at 10:30am and 2:30pm and the zoo's resident sea lions put on a show complete with flips and high-fives at 11:30am, 2pm, and 4pm. The zoo's Wildlife Theater uses interactive performances to engage up to 300 students of all ages through drama, puppetry, and music. Year-round education classes and innovative public programs encourage all ages to learn more about our natural world and become involved in its protection. The zoo also offers a summer camp for kids of all ages, plus an internship opportunity for teens.
The Leaping Frog Café offers a kid-friendly, educational environment and an extended menu that includes kid favorites like peanut butter and jelly on chocolate bread, hamburgers, quesadillas, and chicken tenders. The ZOOTIQUE gift shop offers plush animals, children's books, toys, games, and other souvenirs.
The Central Park Zoo is located at the southeast corner of Central Park. It is open daily, year-round, generally from 10am-5:30pm (except in the winter, when it closes at 4:30pm). Last tickets are sold 30 minutes prior to close. Total Experience admission (includes entry to the Main Zoo, Tisch Children's Zoo, and one admission to the 4-D Theater): $18; $15 seniors; $13 children ages 3-12. General admission (includes entry to the Main Zoo and Tisch Children's Zoo): $12; $9 seniors; $7 children ages 3-12. School and camp groups can receive a discount by booking a guided tour.
