Venue Description: The Tenafly Nature Center, which opened in 1961, is a 400-acre nature preserve in Bergen County dedicated to protecting its inhabitants and providing environmental education to the next generation. The center is open to the public, offering activities during every season. On its nature trails, visitors can hike, cross-country ski, and snowshoe, depending on the season. TNC's Pfister's Pond is available for ice-skating during the winter.
Visitors are welcome to bird-watch and observe the wildlife that inhabits the center's woodlands. TNC is home to more than 50 species of birds and a stopover for hundreds of others during spring and fall migrations. Red fox, white-tailed deer, chipmunks, frogs, toads, salamanders, and snakes are also common sights, along with a variety of other flora and fauna.
More than 1,100 groups of children visit TNC each year. The center plans a variety of public programs, including Summer Nature Day Camp for students in pre-K through eighth grade, Seasonal Scavenger Hunt for children 4 years and older and their parents, Family Nature Walks, and more. TNC also offers after-school programs and educational programs for schools, home schools, and scouts; professional development for teachers; and birthday party packages.
