Description: Dr. Robert DeCandido, known as "Birding Bob" to legions of New Yorkers who follow him around city parks looking for feathered friends, will answer your every owl question. Learn about which owls are seen most often this time of year, then take a stroll outside and sip hot chocolate as Bob attempts to summon these amazing creatures from their treetops. Venue Description: Considered one of the most beautiful historic houses in New York City, the Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum, which sits on 9 acres, was built between 1836 and 1842 and was first opened as a museum in 1946. The museum depicts life as it was in the Pelham Bay area in the mid-19th century, offering visitors a look into how life was for people who lived and worked on the estate during the Civil War. The mansion's collection includes Greek revival interiors, paintings, historic items, decorative arts, and furniture.
Each year, the museum sees several thousands of visitors?from those simply enjoying a day spent in the gardens to tour groups and students. Students explore various topics at the museum, including "Family Life on a 19th-Century Estate;" "The Original Bronx Natives: Who Were They?" and "19th Century Games and Toys." Bartow-Pell Mansion is open Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 12pm-4pm. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and students, and free for children younger than 6.
