Venue Description: The Jacob K. Javits Convention Center is a major convention center on Manhattan?s West Side, operated by the New York Convention Center Operating Corporation. The Javits Center?s space-frame, glass-and-steel structure was built in 1986 and named after U.S. Senator Jacob K. Javits, who died that year. Spanning five blocks, the Center features 1.8 million square feet of exhibit space and four floors of meeting rooms, galleries, and exhibition and special events halls, as well as other amenities. An expansion begun in 2006 plans to increase the Center?s size by 45 percent, making it the fifth largest convention center in the United States. The Javits Center hosts hundreds of events each year, including expos, fairs, lectures, trade shows, festivals, and more, in a variety of genres. Some events are open to the public, while others are private or for members only.
